From Armenia to Poland and to America

The story of Narum begins with a remarkable probiotic strain, an Armenian scientist and, decades later, a Polish father searching for answers for his family. Today, that journey continues in America.

The Discovery of Narine

More than six decades ago, Armenian microbiologist Professor Levon Erzinkyan was researching lactic-acid bacteria when he isolated an unusual human-origin strain. The culture became known as: Lactobacillus acidophilus Er-2 strain 317/402 Narine.

The name Narine came from Professor Erzinkyan's granddaughter. The strain attracted attention because of characteristics that distinguished it from many conventional lactic-acid cultures, including its resilience in acidic and bile environments and its ability to adhere to intestinal surfaces.

Over the following decades, Narine became the subject of continued microbiological and human research. But for many years, its story remained largely within Armenia and the countries of the former Soviet Union.

That would eventually change.

How Narine Reached to Poland

Decades later, Michał Toczyłowski, a Polish father searching for solutions during a difficult period in his son's health, came across information about the Armenian Narine strain.

His search eventually led him to Armenia and to the original culture preserved through the country's microbiological scientific institutions. What began as a deeply personal search became a much bigger idea.

After his family's experience with Narine, Michał became convinced that more people in Poland should have access to this distinctive probiotic culture.

In 2018, he began bringing Narine-based products produced by Vitaway in Armenia to the Polish market.

From that beginning, Narum was born.

Narum Grows in Poland

What began with one extraordinary strain gradually developed into an extensive wellness brand. Narum expanded its range of Narine-based products and developed formulations designed for different ages, lifestyles and wellness needs.

At the same time, Michał Toczyłowski became an active educator in Poland, helping increase public awareness of the microbiome and the importance of strain-specific probiotics.

The creation of the Narine Academy
helped continue that mission by bringing together scientific heritage, education and ongoing discussion surrounding Narine and related microbial cultures.

Over the years, Narum developed a strong and loyal following in Poland. Today, it offers one of the broadest selections of original Narine formulations on the Polish market.

And Now — America

For years, many Polish consumers living in the United States have known Narum from home.

Now they no longer have to look for it overseas. Poland's #1 Narine Brand is Finally Available in the USA.

But the U.S. launch is more than simply bringing the existing brand across the Atlantic. Narum enters America with an upgraded brand identity and a new generation of products developed specifically for the U.S. market.

From Armenia. To Poland. Now America.

70+ Years of Scientific Heritage

Levon Erzinkyan, while analyzing his granddaughter’s meconium, discovers a unique bacterium: Lactobacillus acidophilus strain Er-2 317/402.

During a severe infection affecting his granddaughter, Professor Erzinkyan uses the isolated strain in therapy, which leads to her recovery. He then names the strain after his granddaughter — Narine. The government of the Armenian SSR introduces Narine bacteria as a milk additive in kindergartens.

After the Chernobyl disaster, Narine begins to be used in the treatment of dysbiosis, gaining recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Dr. Eduard Dilanyan, in order to avoid surgery, uses Narine yogurt, which inspires him to conduct research and establish a facility producing preparations based on this bacterial strain.

Japanese microbiologists confirm that Narine induces interferon production, which supports the fight against infections.

In the United Kingdom, it was revealed that Soviet astronauts used Narine, a fact that had previously been a military secret.

This marks the beginning of cooperation with a production facility in Japan.

Michał Toczyłowski, while seeking help for his son, learns about the exceptional effects of Narine and establishes contact with the producer in Armenia, which leads to the creation of the European brand Narum.
